Welcome to CD-Link(TM)
This file is also in Word for Windows format called CDLINK.DOC
DEMONSTRATION VERSION ONLY - SHARE 1 CD-ROM ONLY.
Restrictions using the CD-Link DEMO:
- Only one CD-ROM drive will be sharable
- Only one connection will be allowed to the CD-Server
all other attempts to attach to the CD-Server will fail
- After 10 minutes, the connection to the CD-Server will be aborted and
you will need to unload both CDSERVER and CDUSER to attach again.
- File and directory caching has been disabled.
Information regarding the use of the Pre-Release DEMO:
- This is a pre-release DEMO. It has not been tested in all environments.
If you have an environment that CD-Link does not work in,
please contact Cross International so we may correct the problem.
- Do not use the DEMO on a critical application.
Because the DEMO will abort the connection after 10 minutes,
some applications may not be able to recover from the loss
of the remote drive.
Information regarding the retail version of CD-Link:
CD-Link allows 1, 5, 10, or 25 users concurrent access to up to 7 CD-ROM
drives on a single PC for use with Novell and Netware Lite LAN systems.
Step 1 - Pre-Setup:
You must first install your CD-ROM drive(s) on the CD-Server
according to your drive manufacturers instructions.
CD-Link requires access to the CD-ROM drive(s) via MSCDEX version 2.0
or greater. MSCDEX is not required for use on the
workstation side (CDUSER.EXE).
Copy the CD-Link software to the local hard disk drive
with the CD-ROM drives. Once the CD-ROM drives are setup
you may continue to step 2.
Step 2 - CDSETUP.EXE
Select 'Set Resource Names' from the main menu of CDSETUP.EXE
a) Enter in the name of this CD-Server. (Example: 'CDSERV1')
b) Enter the maximum number of total open files that will be
available to remote users.
The minimum number of files is 20 and the maximum is 225.
c) Fill in a resource name and drive that will be available to remote users.
F9 will search for all CD-ROM drives and fill in a default
for these fields.
(Example: 'CD1' 'F')
d) Press F10 to save the changes.
Select 'Edit Network Address" from the main menu
e) Fill in the hexadecimal numbers that represent different
network segments on your network.
Pressing F9 will search for the segments for you.
f) Press F10 to save the changes.
Step 3 - CDSERVER.EXE
Run CDSERVER.EXE. on the CD-Server
CDSERVER will report the drive(s) it is making
available for remote users (one in demo version) an load resident.
To unload CDSERVER, type CDSERVER /U
Step 4 - CDUSER.EXE
Run CDUSER.EXE on a remote workstation with the
following command line parameters:
/s:ServerName - (Name of the CD-Server to attach to, from step 2a)
/m:ResourceName - (Name of the resource to attach to, from step 2c)
/l:DriveLetter - (Local drive letter to assign to remote CD-ROM)
Using the examples in the previous steps you would type:
CDUSER /s:CDSERV1 /m:CD1 /l:F
This would setup drive F as the CD-ROM drive on
CD-Server 'CDSERV1' and CD1 as the drive you want to access.
The drive letter you choose need not be the same as the drive selected
under step 2b.
The drive letter you choose must be less than the LASTDRIVE
parameter in the config.sys.
You may also set these parameters with the following environment variables:
SET CDSRV = ServerName
SET CDNAM = ResourceName
SET CDDRV= LocalDriveLetter
To unload CDUSER, type CDUSER /U
If you need additional help,
please refer to your CD-ROM manual before calling us - thanks.
